If your New Year’s Resolution is to get healthy learning how to eat right can set you on the path to success. There are always interesting factoids and health tips out there but following the tried and true tips are the clearest way to reach your goal.

Eating out can be the hardest time to stick to your healthy eating resolution. When you order an entrée ask for two servings of veggies and skip the starch. Many chains offer healthy or low fat entrées which list the nutritional content right on the menu. You can also ask your server to bring you half of your entrée and box the other half to enjoy tomorrow.

Eat a salad before your meal but skip “extras” such as shredded cheese, cream dressings or fried croutons. Drink water throughout the meal and as hard as it may be skip the bread basket. Fish is good, as long as it is not fried, and a better choice than red meat by far and unless it is a special occasion skip dessert. You can eat a sweet yummy orange when you get home.

If you are looking for a local dining establishment that offers healthy choices you may want to try out Green Zone. They serve organic Chinese food and when the owner Jill Cam was considering opening up she said, “I just thought I just want to have a restaurant, put good food and use organic ingredients, natural ingredients as much as I can.”

Green Zone’s menu speaks for itself with selections like Prawn Tofu Wraps, slightly fried minced prawns with tamarind sweet and sour sauce and fresh cucumbers and Beef Sukiyaki, piping hot Japanese hot pot with beef organic veggies and fried rice. If you are in the mood for seafood, you may enjoy the clams sautéed with white wine and a garlic broth.

You can check the full menu out at www.greenzonerestaurant.com. They are located at 34 South Raymond Avenue in Pasadena.
