Here’s The Moment This Penn State Dad is Brought to Tears by Rose Bowl Tickets

State College, PA residents Dean Yockey and wife Becky had agreed they weren’t going to the Rose Bowl, even though they hemmed and hawed about it before making their decision.

What Dean didn’t know was that Becky had other plans. On Thursday night, Becky and their four daughters brought home a box, and after dinner gave it to Dean.

Inside the box was a bowl of roses – and tickets to the Rose Bowl Game between their home team Penn State and USC on January 2.

“My wife baffled me, because she said the early Christmas present was from her boss,” Dean Yockey tells State College-based Centre Daily Times. “I just didn’t think it was anything for me.”

The video their daughters took as Dean opened the box has gone viral. In it, Dean opens the package, looks in disbelief at the tickets, and sheds tears of joy as his wife hugs him.

They’re going to the Rose Bowl Game after all to watch how their home team would fare against USC in “The Granddaddy of Them All.”

“There was a lot more crying after that, and my mom kept saying ‘Are you mad? Don’t be mad,’ ” daughter Jennifer tells Centre Daily Times. “But he’s super excited.”

Jennifer tells the daily their parents have always cared for her and her sisters, and never about themselves.

“This is finally something special for them,” Jennifer says.

The surprises did not end there, because Penn State football coach James Franklin tracked down Becky Yockey, who works at Penn State’s College of Medicine, and called Dean on Friday night to thank him for his support.

Franklin promised to send the couple a care package before they leave for Pasadena.

Dean Yockey has been a lifelong Penn State fan despite his Pittsburgh roots and the fact that his dad was a huge Pitt fan.

“I just want to say I love my family, I love my wife and this is a dream come true,” he tells Centre Daily Times. “It’s really a dream come true.”
