How to Eat Oysters Like a Pro

It is one of the fanciest and most delicious of foods available – oysters are a statement of class. For the sake of your palette, everyone should give an oyster a go at some point!

But how do you eat them properly? If you haven’t given oysters a try yet, or you are unsure if you are doing it right, here are a few tips on how to eat an oyster like the pros do it.

When eating an oyster, start by observing it and admiring the look of it. Then smell it – just as if it was a glass of fine wine. The salty scent should transport you straight to the ocean. After having a sniff, knock back the oyster – but don’t swallow right away! Give it two or three chews to really get the flavor out.

Tasting oysters is subjective, like any food, and we all have different preferences. There are a few flavors you should look for in an oyster, though. Usually, they will start off salty, move on to a buttery flavor and end with a satisfying sweetness, but all oysters will vary in intensity and flavor and it is up to you to find your favorite.

If you want to try out some oysters, Alexander’s Steakhouse has delicious oysters on the menu, served as an appetizer with aji amarillo ice and wakame celery cream.

Alexander’s Steakhouse is located at 111 N. Los Robles Blvd. in Pasadena. Reservations can be made online or by calling (626) 486-1111. You can visit Alexander’s Steakhouse at www.alexanderssteakhouse.com .
