It was an “Evening in Black in White†for LCPC Parent Education on Friday, February 27, at Pasadena’s Noor. Emceed by Chris Erskine and Chuck Osburn, the annual gala not only raised funds for the lauded program, but also honored two special gentlemen.
After several standing ovations from the audience, Rev. Dr. Gary Demarest was presented the 2015 Shining Star Award for his “significant contribution to children and families” over his past 89 years. Additionally, $20,000 was raised for 20-month Jude DeMatteis, a local toddler who is battling a still undiagnosed medical condition that leaves him unable to tolerate any natural foods.
“We are overwhelmed and humbled by the outpouring of love and support,” stated Jasmine DeMatteis, Jude’s mom. “Because of LCPC, Jude will not have to go through another painful surgical biopsy. Everyone involved in raising funds has given us reason to believe that we will be able to diagnose and cure Jude.”
At the end of the powerful evening, the winner of the Opportunity Drawing Beach House gifted it back to the DeMatteis family–followed by the original donor gifting 1 more weekend to the winner! “It was truly an unforgettable evening,” cited Parent Education Director, Anne Bierling, “to be inspired by Gary Demarest’s rich legacy–while also participating in a miracle for Jude. Everyone there felt the joy–as God certainly showed up for us!”
