Tribe Lacrosse, a nonprofit, lacrosse league for boys and girls, 1st through 12th grade, is welcoming a new Director of Coaching Development to their team. Kyle Mendelson has over 20 years of involvement in lacrosse both as a coach and player.

Mendelson was born in Santa Monica and has had a stick in his hands since he was 5 years old. He and his father often played lacrosse on the beach at Will Rogers State Park. He was involved in the early days of organized lacrosse on the West Side, playing with the Malibu High, Westside Warriors and practicing with Palisades Charter High School club teams, all while in elementary school.

Mendelson’s family moved back to the East Coast – his parents are from New York and Maryland, respectively) and settled in Westport, Connecticut. Lacrosse was used to create friends and social opportunity in the new small town in coastal Southern New England. It was there that Mendelson really threw himself into the sport, playing year round and helping to lead the town’s local public Staples High School to its first ever undefeated season. He finished out his high school career with Super Junior, All Conference, All Fairfield County, All Area and All State honors.

Mendelson went on to attend Division 1 Manhattan College, where he played defensive Midfield for the Jaspers, earning Conference All-Academic team honors. He finished his lacrosse career at Loyola Marymount University, where he was a two time team captain, helping to lead the Lions to 2 consecutive play-off appearances, as well as top 25 rankings from the Midfield.

Since graduating college, Mendelson has gotten involved in the world of coaching at the Westchester Rec League and in the Pasadena Tribe travel team (summer of 2014) and 3D Southland. After two years away from Southern California to work in the world of Financial Executive Search in New York City, Mendelson has returned to Los Angeles to begin working toward a master’s degree in Secondary Education, where he hopes to teach High School history while coaching Varsity Lacrosse at the high school level.
