Planned Parenthood Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley will celebrate the 46th anniversary of Roe v. Wade with a happy hour on Jan. 22.
Roe v. Wade is the landmark 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal in the United States.
On a 7-2 vote, the high court ruled that a right to privacy under the due process clause of the 14th Amendment included a woman’s decision to have an abortion.
Unlike many Supreme Court rulings, Roe hardly “settled” the issue of abortion on demand; a procedure that still fuels a debate that has grown more passionate, than less, since the decision was handed down.
Although the Supreme Court addresses dozens of issues crucial to the country throughout a typical term, the position on “Roe” of a Supreme Court appointee always takes on outsized importance during the confirmation process.
The Pasadena community is no exception to the national zeitgeist on the issue.
Tickets for the happy hour, which will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., are $25. The location will be provided upon ticket purchase through https://tinyurl.com/y7fhagdj.
