Pasadena High School 11th Grade Student Wins 1st Place at LA County Science Fair

On Saturday, March 19th, the Los Angeles County Office of Education hosted the 2016 Los Angeles County Science Fair at the Pasadena Convention Center. More than 800 students participated in this year’s event.

Pasadena High School had four students enter this year’s contest.

Erica Whiting, 11th grade, who won a 1st Place Medal for her work in Animal Physiology (Meal Worms Digesting Styrofoam). In addition, Whiting received an INTEL Talent Search Award. At the end of the competition it was announced that she was a Sweepstakes Finalist in the competition and will compete at the State Level Science Fair Competition being held May 23rd – 24th at the California Science Center.

The other students who participated include Therese Cook for Engineering; Kenneth Prado and Kenice Washington who were partners on a project in Physics.

Mary Hines, Science Teacher, is the Pasadena High School Science Fair site coordinator. Hines worked with Karen Jain and Caltech graduate student Mark Harfourche to oversee the work carried out by all our L.A. County Science Fair candidates.
