A 30-year-old man was charged today in connection with the fatal shooting of his sister last week, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Johnny Goins, 30, of Pasadena has been charged with three felonies: murder, attempted murder and assault with a firearm in case GA095841.

The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned today at the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Alhambra, Department 5.

Prosecutors will recommend that bail be set at $3.05 million. The charging document includes special allegations that the defendant personally and intentionally discharged a firearm, which caused great bodily injury and death during the commission of the crime.

Deputy District Attorney Kevin Keeland, who is assigned to the case, said defendant Goins reportedly went to his sister’s apartment the morning of March 5. Once there, the defendant allegedly shot Tanya Goins, 32, who was fatally wounded.

During the incident, the victim’s teenage son also was struck by the gunfire, but did not suffer lifethreatening injuries.

Later the same day, the defendant was arrested in Moreno Valley in connection with the fatal shooting, the prosecutor said.

If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of 52 years to life in state prison.

The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
