A 23-year-old man was sentenced today to 17 years in state prison for the 2016 hit-and-run death of a motorcyclist in Pasadena, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Donte Antoine Fox, 23, of Pasadena pleaded no contest last week to one felony count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.

Fox also admitted an allegation that he fled the scene of the crime. In addition, he admitted a prior strike conviction in case GA097374 where he pleaded no contest to first-degree residential burglary in 2016 and was sentenced to two years in state prison.

On Oct. 6, 2016, Fox was driving a vehicle and crashed into motorcyclist Oscar Chavez, 60, the prosecutor said. The victim died at the scene and the defendant fled and remained at large until his arrest on June 21, 2018.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Ryan Erlich and investigated by the Pasadena Police Department.
