Pasadena Police Alert Public to Recent Thefts of Gardening Equipment from Pickups

Published on Thursday, January 18, 2018 | 3:33 pm

The Pasadena Police Department is warning residents and maintenance workers about recent thefts of gardening equipment from the back of pickups in Pasadena.

In an advisory, the PPD said when gardening tools are left unattended, it creates an opportunity for thieves to steal them.

“In some isolated cases the thieves are stealing the entire work truck with the equipment,” the advisory said.

The police department suggests these safety tips to deter thieves from stealing equipment:

• Secure it in the back of your work trucks through some kind of locking device and or heavy duty cables which are not easily cut.

• Have a person with your work truck at all times.

• Carry a list of serial numbers for large items such as lawn mowers, leaf blowers, trimmers, etc.

• Take a picture of your equipment. If it is stolen you may be able to identify it through photographs.

• Etch your name and an identifying symbol on your equipment.

For more information, call the Pasadena Police Department, (626) 744-4241 or visit the department’s webpage, www.cityofpasadena.net/police.

The page also includes an online reporting facility through which anyone who may have been a victim of, or witness to, a crime may submit a report.
