Pasadena Star-News Owner Sells West Covina Building, Shifts Some Operations to Monrovia

Monrovia's city manager says the Pasadena Star-News owner, the Los Angeles Area News Group, has leased over 33,000 square feet of office space in this Monrovia building.

The Los Angeles News Group (LANG), which owns the Pasadena Star News and other newspapers, reportedly executed a lease agreement to move into 33,000+ square feet of office space at 605 East Huntington Drive in Monrovia.

Monrovia City Manager Oliver Chi made the announcement in a Tuesday email newsletter.

The move will come in the wake of LANG’s recent sale of its much larger building in West Covina.

“Based on preliminary reports that we have received, LANG will be employing around 150-200 people at their new facility here in Monrovia,” Chi wrote.

Frank Girardot, senior editor of the San Gabriel Valley News Group, said Wednesday morning that the move would not affect the Pasadena Star-News editorial staff or its advertising sales personnel.

“The Star-News is going to stay and I’m going stay, the reporters are all going to stay and our sales operation is all going to stay at 911 East Colorado [Blvd.],” Girardot said.

“We would never move out of Pasadena. Never,” Girardot said.
