For the second consecutive year, Pasadena City College has been named the top producer in the nation of associate degrees in multi/interdisciplinary studies, according to data recently released by Community College Week.

PCC headed a list of 50 community colleges across the country in the periodical’s report released last month.

“We are very proud to be the top producer because it represents the fact that we are working hard to help our students complete their goals,” said Dr. Cynthia Olivo, associate vice president of Student Affairs at PCC. “I was especially pleased because Community College Week compiles data from all the community colleges in the country. It speaks volumes of the work we do for our students.”

According to preliminary data for the 2012-2013 academic year, PCC awarded 1,382 associate degrees in multi/interdisciplinary studies. That number was more than 500 degrees produced to its closest competitor, Moraine Valley Community College in Illinois.

Dr. Walter G. Bumphus, president and CEO of the American Association of Community Colleges, congratulated PCC for its recent accolade. “You and your team should be extremely proud of the student success work you’ve been doing,” Bumphus penned in a letter sent to the college administration last month. “Based upon your ranking in the report, this work is obviously paying dividends to the community, the economy, and to your region.”

This is not the first time PCC has received top honors. For the 2011-2012 academic year, the college was listed number one in awarding associate degrees in multi/interdisciplinary studies.

Published bi-weekly, Community College Week readers include college presidents, chief academic officers, faculty, student-service professionals, librarians and other educators. In each edition, readers find news and features not provided by other news sources, including analyses of critical academic trends and issues, vital statistics, technology updates and employment opportunities.
