South Pasadena Police Pull Unconscious Man from Burning Car Wreck, Four Others Injured

Published on Sunday, February 1, 2015 | 6:29 am

South Pasadena police officers used a baton to break out the front passenger window of a burning wrecked car and drag an unconscious man to safety about 1:55 a.m. this morning.

Police say a car being driven southbound Fair Oaks Avenue failed to make the left turn to eastbound Huntington Drive.

The car struck a center median and then a mailbox and fire hydrant on the south sidewalk of Huntington, shearing off the hydrant. The car just missed hitting a tree, struck a sign and wall, flipped over and landed on its roof.

Four adult females, including the driver, were able to crawl from the wreckage with the help of passersby after one of the female passengers kicked out a window.

When police arrived they were told there was still someone inside the now burning car. Officers saved the man from the flaming wreck.

All five occupants were taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries and the driver is being investigated for Felony DUI for causing injuries to the four passengers.
