Local YWCAs Team up to Bring “Camp Rosie: Girls on the Rise” Summer Camp to Middle School Girls

Published on May 22, 2020

The continued COVID-19 public health crisis has led many organizations to develop creative solutions and partnerships to implement their core youth development and leadership program activities. The YWCA Glendale and YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley have teamed up to bring summer empowerment sessions and engaging STEAM workshops to girls throughout Glendale, Pasadena, and the San Gabriel Valley. The YWCAs’ virtual summer camp entitled, Camp Rosie: Girls on the Rise will emphasize girls’ empowerment through workshops and team-building exercises, along with technology and art projects. The week-long curriculum will be repeated for six sessions, from June 15 – August 7, for 15 girls at a time.

The camp will run online Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will teach life skills such as healthy relationships, nutrition, self-defense, and physical fitness. Additionally, girls will prepare for the future through the camps’ diverse female guest speakers as well as learning entrepreneurship and civic engagement.

“We are so excited to be able to provide something fun and empowering for girls that will help them look toward the future. This program will allow them to continue to thrive and improve their self-esteem, mental health, and prepare for success. ” says Program Manager, Jomie Liu .

Registration for  Camp Rosie is free and open to girls entering grades 6-8 in the next school year, on a first come, first served basis.  Additionally, girls who complete an entire session will be given a $75 stipend for their participation. More information on the camp, including online and downloadable camp registration  can be found at: bit.ly/2020CampRosie.
