California AAPI Legislative Caucus Endorses John Harabedian for State Assembly

The California Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Legislative Caucus has thrown its support behind John Harabedian for State Assembly in the 41st District, which includes Pasadena.

Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Silicon Valley), Chair of the California AAPI Legislative Caucus, released a statement affirming the endorsement.

“The California AAPI Legislative Caucus is proud to endorse John Harabedian for State Assembly,” Low said. “John is a trusted and proven leader with an unwavering commitment to serving his community. He knows what it takes to get things done and has the experience to back it up. We are confident that John will work tirelessly in Sacramento to deliver results for working families and will be a strong ally in the fight to ensure all voices are heard and represented.” 

The California AAPI Legislative Caucus is an advocacy group that represents and champions the interests of diverse Asian Pacific Islander communities across the state. Among the group’s objectives are increasing API representation in government, ensuring equal access to essential services, preserving safety net programs, promoting language access, combating hate crimes, and fostering civic participation.

District 41 encompasses Pasadena and the cities of Bradbury, Claremont, La Cañada Flintridge, La Verne, Monrovia, San Dimas, Sierra Madre, and portions of Hesperia, Rancho Cucamonga, and Upland. Democrats hold an 18% registration advantage over Republicans in this district.

John Harabedian is a California State Commission President, attorney, and former City Councilmember and Mayor. 

A Sierra Madre native, he has a rich history of public service. Elected to the Sierra Madre City Council in 2012 and re-elected in 2016, he served two terms as Mayor. He was appointed to the California Department of Consumer Affairs Acupuncture Board by Governors Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom.

Professionally, Harabedian has worked as a prosecutor at the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office and held roles at Latham & Watkins, Stanford’s Immigrants’ Rights Clinic, and the Equality Pro Bono Project.

In 2020, he was recognized as Assembly District 41’s Democrat of the Year. He serves as a Regional Vice Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party and an Executive Board Member of the California Democratic Party. He resides in Pasadena with his wife, Young-Gi, and their three children.
