Pasadena Police officers arrested a 17-year-old Pasadena juvenile early Sunday morning after he allegedly pointed a handgun at a man sleeping in a vehicle and then drove away with it.
The carjacking took place in the 900 block of N. Raymond Avenue. The teen was arrested one block away, said Pasadena Police Lt. Mark Goodman.
The incident happened at about 3:55 a.m. Sunday.
“The victim was sleeping in his vehicle when he was confronted by the suspect,” Goodman said. “The victim reported that the suspect was armed with a handgun and demanded the vehicle. He complied.”
After the victim called police, responding officers found the suspect with the vehicle about a block away on Painter Street. Goodman said the suspect was arrested without incident and was subsequently transported to juvenile hall.
No injuries were reported during the incident, and the vehicle, a 1989 Toyota Corolla, was returned to the victim, a 47-year-old Pasadena resident.
Goodman said no handgun was recovered.
“It is believed that the suspect may have used a cellphone to simulate a handgun during the commission of the crime,” Goodman added.
