Two women suffered minor injuries when a large oak tree branch broke free from its trunk and fell on top of them, as well as a car, in Pasadena on Friday afternoon, officials said.

The mishap was reported about 3:00 p.m. on private property in the 100 block of South Victoria Avenue, according to city spokeswoman Lisa Derderian. An urban search and rescue team responded to the scene.

A woman in her 60s who was hit by the falling tree was taken to a hospital with a contusion to her back, she said.

A second woman, who was in her 30s, suffered some scrapes but was not taken to a hospital.
