More than 49,900 Pasadenans over the age of 16, amounting to 42.4% of the city’s population, have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, officials said Wednesday.

Nearly 28,500 city residents, or 24.2% of Pasadena’s population over 16 years old, which is the minimum age for which the vaccines are currently approved, have been fully vaccinated, according to city data.

Additionally, just under 90% of the city’s residents over 65 years old have received at least an initial dose of COVID-19 vaccine, city spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said.

She described the new figures as “great progress.”

Officials also announced Wednesday that Pasadenans 50 years old and up are eligible to fill out the city’s online vaccine information inquiry form to be notified when supplies are available, Derderian said. The form can be accessed at https://www.cityofpasadena.net/public-health/covid-19-vaccine/#covid-19-vaccine-inquiry.

Groups including health workers, first responders, residents over 65, long-term care facility residents, teachers, and food and agriculture workers have already been declared eligible to fill out the form, which does not immediately result in an appointment for vaccination.

Seven new cases of the virus were detected in the city on Wednesday, marking five straight days of single-digit counts, and a single new death was reported, according to Derderian. Details regarding the latest fatality were not available.

In total, the Pasadena Public Health Department has recorded 11,100 novel coronavirus infections and 335 deaths.

Over the prior week, the city had documented an average of 8.3 new infections daily, according to city records.

Huntington Hospital reported treating 17 COVID-19 patients on Wednesday, with five of them being cared for in an intensive care unit.

PPHD officials continued making visits to businesses to ensure compliance with COVID-19 protocols, Derderian said.

With the Pasadena Unified School District preparing to welcome students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade back to in-class instruction next month, Derderian said health officials were also working closely with the district to support its efforts.

At the state level, authorities on Wednesday announced 1,955 new infections and 254 deaths, raising the statewide totals to 3,551,056 known infections and 56,850 fatalities.

The state’s average positivity rate over the prior week crept up to 1.9%, according to the California Department of Public Health. It was recorded at 1.7% on Monday and Tuesday.
