A 71-year-old homeless man was repeatedly shot with a paintball gun in an unprovoked attack in Pasadena on Thursday night, officials said.

The victim was sitting at Lake Avenue and Washington Boulevard when he was struck by paintballs, Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Burgess said. He was struck in the face, thigh and back.

“As a result, he fell off a 3-foot retaining wall he was sitting on,” according to the lieutenant.

Responding officers found the victim unconscious when they arrived and noted that he appeared to be intoxicated. Paramedics were summoned to treat him for apparently minor injuries.

The victim was unable to provide any description of his attacker, Burgess said.
