Public health officials reported Tuesday that 77.8% of Pasadenans over the minimum eligible age of 12 have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Additionally, another 9% of city residents have received a single dose of two-dose vaccine regimens, such as the Pfizer or Moderna formulations, according to city data.

Two new infections detected in Pasadena on Tuesday brought the city’s pandemic total to 11,337. The local death toll has remained stable at 349 since June 3.

Over the prior week, an average of 2.1 new cases of the virus were detected in Pasadena daily, Pasadena Public Health Department records show.

Officials at the local and regional levels reiterated their desire for the public to return to wearing masks while indoors in public places in response to the spread of the extra-potent and contagious Delta variant of the virus.

“Because of increased circulation of the highly transmissible Delta variant across the country, Public Health strongly recommends everyone, as a precautionary measure, wear masks indoors in settings such as grocery or retail stores; theaters and family entertainment centers, and workplaces when you don’t know everyone’s vaccination status,” according to a Los Angeles County Department of Public Health statement.

“Masks are required for all persons, regardless of vaccination status, on public transit and in transportation hubs; indoors while inside K-12 schools, childcare, camps and other youth settings; in healthcare settings, including long term care facilities; in state and local correctional facilities and detention centers; and in homeless shelters, emergency shelters, and cooling centers; indoors at mega-events with more than 5,000 attendees, and any business or government office serving the public that requires everyone to wear a mask,” the statement added.

County officials reported 321 new infections and three deaths on Tuesday, bringing the countywide totals to 1.249,835 documented cases of COVID-19 and 24,482 fatalities.

L.A. County Director of Public Health Dr. Barbara Ferrer said that fully vaccinated people “are well protected against serious illness and disease caused by variants of concern including the Delta variant.

“So, I encourage everyone eligible and unvaccinated to take another look at all of the mounting information on the vaccines’ safety and effectiveness,” she said. “Ninety-nine percent of all new cases of COVID-19 and hospitalizations since January have been among unvaccinated individuals and 99.8% of the people who have tragically died have been unvaccinated. Getting vaccinated is the most powerful protection for you and your community.”

The California Department of Public Health announced 762 infections and five deaths, noting that backlogged data was still continuing to be added to records.

In all, the state has documented 3,714,813 COVID-19 cases and 62,999 fatalities.

The statewide average positivity rate over the prior week crept up to 1.2%, according to CDPH data.

As of Tuesday, L.A. County accounted for 34% of California’s COVID-19 infections and 39% of the state’s deaths.
