City officials reported 91 new cases of the coronavirus on Sunday, bringing the city’s total number of infections to 9,232.

No additional fatalities were reported.

Meanwhile, Huntington Hospital reported 192 cases and 44 patients in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

On Tuesday, city Health Department Director Dr. Ying-Ying Goh is scheduled to give an update on the city’s vaccine distribution.

In a video released on Friday, Mayor Victor Gordo discussed COVID-19 vaccinations in his second backyard chat.

In that video, Gordo said he planned to send a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom “demanding that we immediately receive more vaccine in Pasadena.”

“This is an important moment in time,” the mayor said. “We need to redouble our efforts to gain access to vaccine and also to ensure that we have appropriate and effective and quick distribution for the residents of Pasadena.”

Gordo said the community should continue to wear masks and follow safety protocols “as we wait for the mass distribution of the vaccine.”

He also said local medical professionals will be able to help in the effort.

“As we are able to, we intend to distribute vaccine to private medical offices, small health providers who are registered and qualified to distribute the vaccine to patients,” he said.

The mayor said mass vaccination events are being discussed.

This weekend, L.A. County crossed a grim milestone when cases crossed the 1 million mark, making it the first county in the nation to report 1 million cases.

The county’s public health department Saturday also confirmed the first case of the COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7, the same variant discovered in the United Kingdom, in an individual who recently spent time in Los Angeles County.

The individual is a male who traveled to Oregon, where he is currently isolating.

Meanwhile, the county is working to ramp up vaccination efforts, with plans to open five large-scale vaccine sites on Tuesday. Those will be in addition to the large site opened by the city at Dodger Stadium on Friday, and 75 smaller sites the county is already operating.

Businesses in Pasadena cannot open until intensive care units in Los Angeles County and across the region reach 15 percent capacity.
