Oscar Carrillo, arrested by Pasadena police after he confessed to lying in a 911 call that led to the fatal shooting of Kendrec McDade on March 24, has been released from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and is “on electronic monitoring.”

Carrillo’s status an an illegal immigrant was uncovered during the investigation surrounding McDade’s death.

After the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office decided not to file charges against Carrillo on Monday, Pasadena police released him to ICE custody.

ICE officers reconfirmed that Carrillo had been previously deported to Mexico in April, 2006, and reinstated Carrillo’s former removal order as he came into ICE custody.

ICE spokesperson Virginia Kice confirmed Tuesday afternoon that at the request of the Pasadena Police Department, federal officials have now postponed Carrillo’s deportation proceedings “until the conclusion of the criminal justice proceedings related to the recent officer involved shooting.”
