A routine traffic stop led to the seizure of a loaded, unserialized ‘ghost gun’ in Pasadena on Thursday night, officials said.
Two men were arrested following the encounter, which took place shortly before 9 p.m. at Navarro Avenue and Cedar Street, Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Russo said.
Officers stopped a car for a traffic violation and noticed an open container of alcohol, Russo said. It was also determined the driver of the car was on parole, and his passenger was on probation.
A search of the car turned up a loaded, unserialized handgun, according to the lieutenant.
Both the driver, a Pasadena man, and the passenger, a Fontana man, were arrested on suspicion of firearm violations, he said.
Pasadena police have seen a growing number of unserialized firearms known as ‘ghost guns’ on the streets in recent months, officials said.
More than 10% of the well over 200 weapons seized by officers this year have been unserialized, Lt. William Grisafe said last month.
