The Coroner’s Office on Tuesday identified a 25-year-old Altadena man as the suspect shot and killed in North Hollywood Sunday, during an officer-involved shooting.
Moises de la Torres was shot about 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Vineland and Archwood Street, where police were sent o a report of a man with a gun, said Los Angeles police officer Norma Eisenman of the department’s Media Relations Section.
According to police, on Sunday, a woman was trying to park her when a man approached her and allegedly threatened to kill her.
The woman told police she saw the man reach into a bag and thought he was arming himself with a gun to act on his threat. She sped away, and called police to report a man with a gun in the area.
Patrol officers located de la Torres standing in the southbound traffic lanes. He was facing away from the officers, still holding the bag which the woman had assumed contained the gun.
The officers ordered him to drop the bag, but he ignored the commands and then advanced on the officers, repeatedly threatening to kill them, according to a department statement.
He was shot after he continued to advance on the officers and pulled his hand from the bag he was carrying, according to the statement.
