Altadena Chamber of Commerce Marks Centennial Milestone with Honors and Gala

Published on Thursday, February 1, 2024 | 5:21 pm

The Altadena Chamber of Commerce and Civic Association is marking its Centennial this year, with a grand celebration scheduled for Friday, Feb. 2 at the Altadena Town and Country Club.

The event, the organizers said, promises an evening of recognition, festivity, and community camaraderie under the theme of a “Roaring 20’s Evening Affair.”

A recognition ceremony will be held for real estate professional Doug Colliflower as the 2023 Citizen of the Year, and El Patron Restaurant, owned by Margarita Cortez, which clinched the title of 2023 Business of the Year.

“In 1924, a group of visionaries joined together to lay the foundation for the organization that would become Altadena Chamber of Commerce & Civic Association,” Judy Matthews, President of the Altadena Chamber of Commerce, said. “As we celebrate the Centennial, we recognize these men and commit to honor their legacy by fulfilling their mission to serve local businesses and the community.”

Matthews said the chamber has grown and diversified to meet the needs of the community. Today’s leadership team is taking on the responsibility for continuing what was started 100 years ago, she added.

The gala evening will feature a Village Table event, providing attendees with a unique opportunity to engage with the awardees and learn firsthand about their contributions and aspirations for the community.

A live auction is also included during the event in support of the Chamber’s scholarship program.

“Thanks to our generous donors and guests, scholarships are awarded to outstanding Pasadena Unified School District seniors who have challenged themselves academically and have demonstrated leadership abilities,” Matthews said.

The celebration kicks off with a one-hour cocktail reception at 6 p.m., followed by a seated dinner at 7 p.m.

While Roaring 20’s attire is optional, guests are encouraged to don cocktail attire for the occasion.

Individuals and businesses can secure tickets to the event, program ads, and sponsorships through the Altadena Chamber of Commerce website,, or through
