AmericaFest at The Rose Bowl to Pay Tribute to First Responders

On-site show preparations begin Thursday

In addition to the usual tribute to military veterans, this year’s AmericaFest at the Rose Bowl will feature an homage to all first responders and frontline workers who helped see Southern California through the pandemic, organizers said.

Show Producer Paul Souza, son of Pyro Spectaculars by Souza President and CEO James Souza, said he and his team will begin setting up the massive fireworks display on Thursday.

“It’s ready and I’m bloody excited about it,” Souza said.

“AmericaFest at the Rose Bowl is a salute to heroes,” according to Souza. And there are quite a few to honor this year.

As always, the show will include a dedication to “first responders and our heroes in uniforms protecting our freedoms,” he said.

Additionally, it will pay tribute to those who jumped into action at the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The show will highlight “the principles of freedom and liberty, and that the heroes are the defenders of that freedom and liberty, whether that’s defending us against the disease that’s COVID, whether it’s your house on fire or a medical problem, or literally on foreign soils fighting for our freedom,” he said.

Other features of the show will include a tribute to the accomplishments of Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a soul music concert and motocross.

“I just really encourage folks that want to get out to get out and watch a professionally done show. Last year, when everyone was shut in at home, there were a lot of illegal fireworks being shot everywhere,” Souza said.

“I just encourage everyone to leave the fireworks to the professionals,” he said. “Most community fireworks are illegal and, quite frankly, a nuisance if you’re shooting them at all hours all night. So cut down the nuisance, be kind to your neighbors and come out and watch our show at Pasadena Rose Bowl.
