What began as an argument among acquaintances escalated into a carjacking after three people beat up a woman and stole her car over the weekend, police said.

The incident unfolded about 6 p.m. Saturday at Claremont Street and Sunset Avenue, but wasn’t reported to authorities until the following day, Pasadena police Lt. Pete Hettema said.

A 28-year-old Pomona woman had become involved in an argument with another woman, who was accompanied by two men, according to the lieutenant. The victim knew the three people by first name.

The victim and the female suspect began fighting, at which point the two men joined in the attack, Hettema said. One of the men and the woman then got into the victim’s car and drove off. The victim did not suffer major injuries.

The car, described as a silver 2008 Acura TL with an Arizona license plate, remained missing Monday, and the three suspects were still at large, he said.
