ArtCenter College of Design Offers 4 New Minors

Students at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena will have four new minor options to choose from starting in the fall, the institution has announced.

The four new minors are offered by the Humanities and Sciences Department, ArtCenter said in a written statement. They include Business, Creating Writing, Research, and Material Science.

The new options “enhance the value of an ArtCenter undergraduate degree and the impact it makes in a post-pandemic future when the demand for designers and knowledge makers is greater than it has ever been,” according to the statement.

Humanities and Sciences Department Chair Jane McFadden said the minors will help create more well-rounded graduates.

“Today’s complex world offers tremendous challenges in the fields of art and design and beyond,” she said. “These minors help students focus their interests outside of the studio and gain a broader perspective on their practice.”

Response from the student body has been positive, according to ArtCenter.

All ArtCenter students are required to take courses in the Humanities and Sciences Department, which are meant to complement the studio programs to “foster thoughtful and rigorous inquiry across the college, traversing cultural, historical, literary, philosophical and scientific perspectives,” the statement said.

The new minors will be open to all undergraduate students, according to the school.
