Crews have cordoned off athletic fields at six Pasadena parks to allow for turf renovation and other improvements, and work is to begin at five additional parks in October, authorities said.

The six current closures are scheduled to last into September, the city said in a written statement.

“The closures will allow crews to conduct much-needed maintenance including aerating, fertilizing, over-seeding, irrigation testing, and repairs, and removal of in-field lip buildup (on baseball/softball diamonds),” the statement said.

Temporary fencing has been set up to protect the fields while the new turf establishes roots, officials said.

Current closures are expected to conclude on Sept. 8 or Sept. 30, depending on the project. They include:

  • Brookside Park: Diamonds 1, 2 and 3. Work is scheduled for completion on Sept. 30.
  • Brenner Park: Softball diamond and multi-purpose field. Work is scheduled for completion on Sept. 30.
  • Jefferson Park: Softball diamond and multi-purpose field. Work is scheduled to be completed on Sept. 8.
  • McDonald Park: Multi-purpose field. Work is scheduled to be completed on Sept. 30.
  • Victory Park: Diamond 1-4, lower multi-purpose field and upper multi-purpose field. Work on the baseball diamond and lower field is scheduled to be completed on Sept. 8. Work on the upper field is scheduled to be completed on Sept. 30.
  • Villa-Parke: Softball diamond and multi-purpose field. Work is scheduled to be completed on Sept. 8.

A second phase of renovations is set to begin on Oct. 4 and last through Dec. 14, city officials said. They include:

  • Brookside Park: Area H. Exact schedule to be determined.
  • Grant Park: Softball diamond.
  • Hahamongna Park: Multi-purpose field and softball diamond.
  • Hamilton Park: Diamond 1-3.
  • Washington Park: Softball diamond.
