Average Southland Gas Prices Stable After Long Streaks of Increases

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped two-tenths of a cent Tuesday to $3.924, the second slight decrease after a 39-day streak of increases totaling 40.7 cents.

The average price is 2 cents more than one week ago, 25.9 cents higher than one month ago and 64.7 cents greater than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price dropped one-tenth of cent on Sunday and was unchanged on Monday.

The Orange County average price dropped one-tenth of a cent to $3.907, the second decrease following a 39-day streak of rising prices totaling 41 cents. It dropped two-tenths of a cent on Saturday, and rose three-tenths of a cent on Sunday and two-tenths of a cent on Monday to its highest amount since Nov. 20, 2019.

The Orange County average price is 1.4 cents more than one week ago, 24.6 cents higher than one month ago and 68.7 cents greater than one year ago.

“A dip in demand along with a simultaneous increase in supply and refinery utilization has contributed to slower movement in gas price increases,” said Jeanette McGee, the AAA’s director, external communication.

“This does not mean gas prices have hit their peak but is a positive sign for consumers.”
