Aveson Global Leadership Academy Appoints Aaron Gerwer as New Site Director

Aaron Gerwer, an educator with over 20 years of experience, has been appointed as the new site director for Aveson Global Leadership Academy in Altadena, California, starting in the fall of 2024, according to a statement from the school.

Gerwer has spent the last decade in school leadership roles after initially serving as a teacher. He has led several highly diverse schools in the Philadelphia Public School System to excellence, the statement said.

Among his notable contributions are establishing an inquiry-based teacher-to-teacher mentorship program, co-designing a weeklong, interdisciplinary community partnership experience for students, securing a $4.5 million partnership from the University of Pennsylvania to implement student-centered and community-connected education, and designing and implementing a full restorative practices model for handling conflicts between students, staff and families.

Gerwer holds a master’s degree in education and special education, as well as a Master’s in English. Throughout his career, he has worked with diverse communities and staff to change the possibilities and opportunities for families and young people through building human-centered systems and programs, according to the statement.

The school expressed confidence that Gerwer will bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and dedication to the Aveson Academy community.
