Azusa Resident Named Chair of American Cancer Society’s San Gabriel Valley Leadership Council

Yvonne Rosas Petty, a REALTOR at Century 21 Masters in Arcadia, has been named chair of the American Cancer Society’s San Gabriel Valley Leadership Council for 2016. She is a dedicated leader in the community and has served as the President of the San Gabriel Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, where she was first introduced to the American Cancer Society twenty years ago and became a liaison to the Latino community.

As a dedicated volunteer for two decades, Yvonne was the event chair for Relay For Life of Arcadia for two years and continues to be an active participant with the Arcadia Association of REALTORS© team. She served as chair of the Society’s Daffodil Days fundraising initiative and East San Gabriel Valley Leadership Council, representing the group on the Los Angeles Regional Council as well. She is currently a Legislative Ambassador with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) and has met with legislators in Washington, DC and Sacramento. Additionally, she has served on the gala committee for the annual American Cancer Society SGV gala, which raises funds locally for critical research and patient services.

In her role as the volunteer chair of the SGV Leadership Council, Yvonne will work with other Society volunteers to build partnerships, increase awareness of ACS free programs and services, raise funds to support the mission, and engage survivors, caregivers and the entire community to fight back against cancer.

“Having worked at the City of Hope Medical Center for 35 years, I know how vitally important the Society’s services, support, research and advocacy are to the well-being of patients and their loved ones,” she said. “I’m excited to take on this challenge and look forward to making an impact by improving and extending the lives of cancer patients and building greater awareness through prevention outreach and education, particularly among our most vulnerable populations.”

In addition to her volunteer work with the Society, Yvonne is also the president of Rebuilding Together San Gabriel Valley Foothills, a nonprofit that assists low-income residents, veterans and the disabled rehabilitate their homes. She is currently a co-chair of the Equal Opportunity Housing Opportunity Committee and received the Betty Dobkin Award, presented to individuals who make home ownership possible for low-income families. She is being installed on the 2016 Board of Directors for the Arcadia Association of REALTORS© and will serve on the Board of Directors for Events for Charity.

Yvonne is a resident of the City of Azusa and her business is based in Arcadia, where she holds a NAR Green and “At Home with Diversity” designation. Her son, Daniel T. Petty, is a partner in her business and has also joined the American Cancer Society SGV Leadership Council this year as a new member. “It is one of the Council’s goals to mentor the next generation of volunteers and I’m very proud that my son will be joining our efforts to finish the fight against cancer!” Yvonne commented. “We welcome all community members who want to make a difference to get involved because we need everyone to work together to end this terrible disease.”
