A banner thanking first responders, health care and elected officials for their service has went up on Monday on the south side of Orange Grove Boulevard between Cypress and Pasadena avenues.

The banner reads, “Cypress, Lincoln, Villa Neighborhood Association, Men Educating Men About Health (MEMAH) and the Pasadena Community Coalition would like to acknowledge the hard work and sacrifice of our community. A heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, hospitals, urgent care providers and other first responders, Pasadena Police Dept.

“We would also like to thank Dr.Ying-Ying Goh (Health Dept.) and her staff, along with all front line responders, including grocery store, pharmacy, food banks , shelters, post office, restaurants, and all others who are working in an “essential” business every day. Many thanks to our community members who are staying at home practicing social distancing and wearing masks to keep us all safe.

A special thanks to Mayor Terry Tornek, for keeping us informed, Vice Mayor Tyron Hampton for staying on top of Rose Bowl loop and Councilmember John Kennedy, (District 3) for the pro-active communication during this time. We also like to thank the entire City Council, the City employees and City Staff for their support and unity during this challenging time.

Let’s demonstrate that as a City we can unite together, today, tomorrow, and moving forward. This is the true Pasadena way.”

Members of the community have signed the banner, according to Martin Gordon.

“The African American and minority communities has been hard hit by this crisis. But, when you look at the raw numbers it is clear that the virus is actually color blind. Make no mistake this affects us all. We trust that as a community we will follow the science and get back to normal with a keen eye on health [living] over economics.”
