Baseball Field Netting, Sidewalk Repair and Management Systems Contracts Approved on Monday’s Consent Calendar

The City Council approved $9.2 million in contracts for items on this week’s consent calendar, including a contract for up to $180,000 to provide improvements to netting at the Jackie Robinson Baseball Field.

According to a staff report, “This project consists of providing additional safety measures by installing netting along the first and third base foul lines. The 40-foot tall netting system is designed to protect those in attendance sitting in the bleachers.”

The City Council accepted the Oct. 15 bid submitted by Judge Netting, Inc. In December 2017, outfield netting was installed as part of the Brookside Park-Jackie Robinson Baseball Field Improvements Project, to prevent baseballs from landing in the park and potentially injuring people.

The other items are three contracts for sidewalk repair and extending a single contract for inventory management systems services for the city’s Water and Power Department.

The consent calendar is a multi-item part of the City Council agenda which can be passed in its entirety with a sweep motion.

Councilmembers have the option of pulling certain items from the consent calendar for further discussion. After an item is pulled it requires a separate vote of the council or it can be held for future discussion.

Councilmember Gene Masuda pulled the item on sidewalk repair and inquired about the city’s budget for sidewalk repair. The item was eventually passed.

Here are the remaining items approved under Monday’s sweep motion:
