Best Selling Author Katrina Kenison Returns to La Cañada

Acclaimed author Katrina Kenison will present “The Parenting Journey,” candid wisdom for parents of all ages during her author tea and book signing Tuesday, February 5, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of La Cañada Presbyterian Church, 626 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada. The talk will include insights from her three books, Mitten Strings for God, The Gift of an Ordinary Day, and her newly released Magical Journey. The event is sponsored by LCPC Parent Education— and is free to the community.

Custom designed for LCPC’s Parent Education Program, Kenison’s talk will take listeners through the stages of motherhood. From her first book, Mitten Strings for God, Kenison will offer wisdom for the hurried mothers chasing after young children. From The Gift of an Ordinary Day, she’ll then explore the often-scary transition as children grow into adolescence, taking on identities of their own. Finally, she’ll touch on her newest offering, Magical Journey, exploring the self-rediscovery that accompanies an empty nest. This intimate glimpse of a mother’s journey will offer guidance for all, reminiscence for some, and a taste of what’s to come for many.

A graduate of Smith College, Kenison spent many years in working publishing in New Haven, New York, and Boston. Her writing has appeared in O The Oprah Magazine, Real Simple, Country Living, Family Circle, Redbook, and other publications. “The Parenting Journey,” marks a return to LCPC for Kenison, who last spoke in 2010 to a packed house. Her captivating presence and honest portrayal of motherhood make this a not-to-be missed event.

Coffee, tea and finger foods will be served during this event, which is free and open to the community as well as Parent Education participants. Flintridge Bookstore and Coffee House will have copies of all three of Kenison’s books available for purchase. La Cañada Presbyterian Church (LCPC) began in 1948 with 158 members and a vision to reach the world for Jesus Christ. That early church was built quite literally on faith and charity from remainder brick and an operating budget that turned just about all of its revenue into active ministry. Through 65 years of outreach, LCPC grew to 2,000 active attendees doing ministry throughout Southern California and in 40 countries around the world. In 2010, the church completed a campus expansion, which doubled its physical base for ministry and kept its historical sanctuary as the heart of the new grounds.

For 33 years, LCPC’s Parent Education Program has maintained its legacy of quality education and reputable staff. Currently, the program offers 13 parent education classes per week for parents of children who are newborns through age 18. Parents of children zero through five attend Parent & Child Classes, while parents of elementary, tween and teen children attend Parent Only Classes. Approximately 400 parents and children from 22 cities come on campus every week for parent education—driving from a 30-mile radius of La Cañada.
