Bosco Tech Joins Loyola Marymount University in Education

Everyone may have noticed the Loyola Marymount University (LMU) banner in front of Bosco Tech and wondered what it means. The school recently has been designated a PLACE (Partners in Los Angeles Catholic Education) Corps School by Loyola Marymount University. In addition, the Tech continues its ongoing partnership with LMU in the university’s CAST Program (Catholic Archdiocese School Teachers). Both are rigorous teaching programs to develop both newer and veteran instructors.

PLACE, a nationally recognized teaching service initiative that works in partnership with the University Consortium for Catholic Education (UCCE) and the University of Notre Dame, is built upon the three pillars of spirituality, community, and professional development. Qualified PLACE instructors teach full-time in local Catholic schools, under contract through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, while completing either a master of arts degree in education and a California Preliminary Credential (or both simultaneously) through LMU.

Similarly, the CAST program allows veteran instructors to earn their California teaching credential and master’s degree in education while continuing to teach full-time in local Catholic school. CAST places a premium on technology, focusing on bridging educational theories with the realities of today’s classroom.

While PLACE is for teachers who have more recently completed their undergraduate studies, CAST is an opportunity for seasoned instructors who have been teaching for several years.
