Brazen Thieves Steal Bronze Light Poles Along South Orange Grove Avenue

Pasadena police are investigating the thefts of three bronze light poles worth an estimated $6,000 from various locations along South Orange Grove Boulevard on Saturday, April 6.  The thefts follow a rash of such incidents over the past week.

Earlier, Pasadena Now reported the theft of a city-owned bronze light pole at the intersection of Orange Grove Boulevard and Barclay Alley on Thursday, April 4.

Pasadena Police Lieutenant Matt Campeau said that an estimated four to five poles had been stolen prior to the Thursday theft. The total taken so far could be eight or more. Each is valued at approximately $2,000.

According to Campeau, on Saturday a Public Works employee noticed a missing light pole from the southwest corner of Orange Grove Boulevard and Palmetto Drive at approximately 2:35 p.m. 

The employee then allegedly discovered two additional locations where light poles were missing: one at the intersection of State Street and Orange Grove Boulevard, and another at Arlington Street and Orange Grove Boulevard.

Police say the three missing poles are the same type as those reported missing earlier in the week. 

Copper wire did not appear to be targeted as part of the thefts, and Public Works crews responded to each location to repair the wires and cone off the areas.

A witness reportedly saw a silver SUV or minivan in the area on April 5th at around 11:05 p.m., but did not call the police at the time. No further description of the vehicle or suspects has been provided.

Authorities have not yet released any video surveillance footage related to the incidents.
