Incumbent Berlinda Brown announced on Tuesday that she will seek re-election to the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees, representing Area 3.

“During my tenure, and current role as President, I have worked and collaborated on behalf of students to make PCC more accessible, affordable and more responsive to the unique challenges facing them,” said Brown.

Brown is endorsed by State Sen. Anthony Portantino, Assemblyman Chris Holden, Mayor Victor Gordo and councilmembers Tyron Hampton, John Kennedy and Felicia Williams.

She is also endorsed by PCC trustees Linda Wah and Tony Fellows. PUSD School board members Scott Phelps and Michelle Richardson Bailey are also endorsing Brown along with former PUSD board member Ramon Miramontes.

“One of my greatest accomplishments has been the establishment of a PCC Satellite program at John Muir High School. The PCC Northwest Campus enables students to earn college credit while attending high school and has proven to be a game-changer for the students in Northwest Pasadena.”

Currently PCC Northwest offers:

• ESLN level classes

• Dual Enrollment credit classes in English, and Political Science

• Credit classes in History, Humanities, Psychology, and Sociology

• Bilingual GED classes

Also, PCC Northwest is partnering with Clark Atlanta University to offer bachelor’s degrees through a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Hybrid Online Program, pending Board approval this fall.

Brown also touted her efforts to:

• Expand educational outreach programs such as dual enrollment, carrier pathways and podcast courses

• Secure a free-tuition policy for all PUSD students

• Increase the number of degrees and certificates awarded to students

• Adopt and implement policies that support diversity and reflect the campus community

• Reduce the achievement gap for African American and Latino students

“I’m very proud of these accomplishments and need your support so I can continue to provide the opportunities that our students need to succeed,” Brown said. “I humbly ask for your vote to re-elect me as the PCC Board of Trustees for Area 3.
