Hollywood Burbank Airport is receiving a $900,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to purchase an aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle.

The grant will be used to replace a vehicle from 2003 “that is

nearing the end of its useful life,” Lucy M. Burghdorf, director of communication for the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority.

Burghdorf said the grant was adopted as part of the 2020-2021 budget by the Airport Authority last month.

At the time of the vote, Councilmember Steve Madison and Mayor Terry Tornek were part of the airport authority.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao announced the grant, part of more than $273 million in airport safety and infrastructure grants to 41 states and the District of Columbia, American Samoa, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, Palau, and Puerto Rico.

“This $273 million federal investment in our nation’s airports will strengthen safety, improve travel, generate jobs, and benefit local communities,” Chao said.
