Burrito Express Celebrates 35 Years Serving Pasadena with Great Food

Steadily delicious, constantly flavorful, Mexican restaurant standby Burrito Express is rolling towards its 35th anniversary with few plans to change the taste that keeps regulars coming back for more.

Giving in to the demands of its customers, Burrito Express is set to introduce its fish tacos and fish burritos around Easter time, said Wil Orozco, owner of the popular restaurant. Orozco bought the restaurant five years ago from his uncle “who still works in the restaurant.”

“We get asked about it all the time so I thought, ‘You know what, let’s go ahead and give it a shot and see how it works,’” said Orozco.

And going by the long-tradition of Burrito Express of serving only the freshest ingredients, the new fish tacos will be made of fresh battered and deep fried fish with cilantro and tomatoes.

Orozco added we are also developing a new white sauce to go with their tacos and burritos.

Since its opening in 1978, Burrito Express has been consistently serving delicious quick meals that its customers keep coming back for.

Indeed in the 1980s, you could actually order from Burrito Express and have the food shipped directly to you. Burrito Express’ food was delivered to prominent individuals, including a U.S. senator during its heyday.

But the practice was stopped after health regulators intervened and ordered them to prepare the burritos off-site in order to be allowed to be shipped out.

But what makes Burrito Express’ burritos and tacos special?

“We make everything in-house,” Orozco declares. He went on to say, “It’s good food. A large amount of our customers are repeat customers that are just here all the time, so I think that helps. But like I said, our food is made fresh here in house and just from the same recipes that we’ve had since the beginning.”

Orozco himself says his favorite is the Carnitas Burrito, the restaurant’s pork burrito that is topped with beans and cheese. “That’s been my favorite. [It’s] what I’ve been eating for the last probably six months,” he said with a smile.

Although Burrito Express is popular for its take-out service, the restaurant has three tables inside and five more outside in the patio. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 9 pm and serves breakfast until 11 am.

Burrito Express is conveniently located on the corner of Washington Blvd and Sierra Bonita Ave., at 1597 E Washington Blvd., Pasadena. To order, call (626) 798-0844, and you can find us online at www.burritoexpresspasadena.com
