More than 30 Pasadena area business and community leaders went back to school on Friday, Oct. 16, to become “Principals for a Day” in the Pasadena Unified School District.  The program was sponsored by Merrill Lynch and coordinated by the Pasadena Educational Foundation.  The program, now in its fifth year,  joined business executives and community leaders in a variety of areas with school principals to foster a new spirit of civic involvement and commitment to Pasadena public schools. Dr. Lisa Sugimoto, Interim President Pasadena City College was the keynote speaker at the post luncheon at Twin Palms.

Business executives and civic leaders spent the morning working on campus with school principals; they later gathered with all participants to hear from PUSD Superintendent Edwin Diaz about how local community can form lasting partnerships with schools in order to enrich the quality of education in Pasadena.

“With the devastating state budget cuts our public schools face, community support for our students and teachers is critical,” said Diaz. “The Principal for a Day program provides an opportunity to create a direct link between our schools and businesses.”

Keynote speaker Dr. Lisa Sugimoto, interim president of Pasadena City College, asked all PFAD participants to commit to finding concrete ways  to build and extend the partnership with their designated school well into the future.

The Pasadena Educational Foundation is a non-profit, community-based organization created in 1971 to enhance educational programs in the Pasadena Unified School District.
