Homicide detectives on Friday released a description of a car they are seeking in connection with a shooting that claimed the life of a 27-year-old man, whose family members said suffered from developmental disabilities, as he walked near his home in Pasadena last year.
Ernesto Jimenez died at the scene of the shooting, which took place shortly after 8 p.m. on Nov. 13 in the 200 block of Parke Street, near Villa Parke, according to police and Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner officials.
“Officers arrived on scene and located Ernesto Jimenez,” police said in a written statement. “The [27]-year-old victim sustained numerous gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Investigators released a new clue to the public Friday in hopes of generating tips.
“Pasadena Police Department Robbery/Homicide investigators have identified a suspect vehicle of interest involved in the murder,” the statement said. “The vehicle has been described as a 2012 or 2013 dark red or burgundy Mercedes Benz with large chrome wheels tucked into the wheel well.”
Authorities released an image of a vehicle similar in appearance to the one they were seeking, although it was not the actual suspect vehicle.
Jimenez suffered from a developmental disability, according to sister Jesica Valdivia, who likened her brother’s mind to that of a 12- or 13-year-old child.
He had no connections to gangs and was well-liked in his community, she said. He had just left his home to go for a walk when he was shot.
Jimenez had previously survived another shooting near his home in 2015, Pasadena police Lt. Jesse Carrillo said.
He was with a group of people in the 500 block of North Marengo avenue when an attacker or attackers approached in a vehicle, opened fire and then sped off. The shooting remains unsolved.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has authorized a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the capture and conviction of Jiminez killer or killers.
Anyone with information was urged to contact the Pasadena Police Department at (626) 744-4241. Tips may also be submitted anonymously to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
