Catholic Community Foundation of Los Angeles Supports Pasadena Catholic Schools

The Catholic Community Foundation of Los Angeles (CCF-LA) has issued grants to three Pasadena-area Catholic schools to relieve the economic burden caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

St. Andrew School, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary School, and Mayfield Senior School have received funding from the foundation since the coronavirus hit the Los Angeles area in March.

The schools were forced to transition to remote learning and in March and are now assessing how to safely reopen in the fall.

“Catholic schools are an investment in a child’s education, character development, and faith,” said Rose Navarro, principal at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary School. “Every gift to our school is an investment that not only benefits the students but also extends itself out to the contributions those children will make to society.”

CCF-LA was founded in 2015 and currently administers 217 accounts with $373 million in assets under management. Grants made by CCF-LA total more than $186 million and are recommended by individual clients who have donor-advised or other charitable funds there.

Clients and beneficiaries do not need to identify as “Catholic” to work with CCF-LA; Villa Esperanza Services, Five Acres, Huntington Memorial Hospital, and the Huntington Library and Gardens are among the foundation’s recent secular beneficiaries.

“I’ve lived in the San Gabriel Valley for decades,” said CCF-LA chairman Bill Wardlaw. “I’ve seen the impact these schools have made in our communities, and I am pleased that our foundation can support Catholic education at this time.”

In addition to the recent school grants, CCF-LA has sent funding in previous years to St. Philip the Apostle School, St. Elizabeth School, and St. Francis High School in the Pasadena area.
