To help slow the transmission of COVID-19, the city, upon the recommendation of its Health Department, has postponed all outdoor recreation programming, and permits for activities in parks are postponed until Feb. 1.

Officials have reported 8,397 cases of the virus and 175 fatalities since the pandemic began.

The city remains under the restrictive state order which allows only essential businesses to operate and bans large gatherings.
Nearly five million people have been tested for COVID-19 in the county since the pandemic started, with 17% testing positive, the city Health Department said.

The Southern California Region continues to have 0% intensive care unit availability.

The county’s 70 “911-receiving” hospitals with emergency rooms have a total licensed capacity of about 2,500 ICU beds. Last week, the county averaged 31 available adult ICU beds on a daily basis, with 78% of all ICU patients in the county being treated for COVID-19.

The City Council was scheduled to receive an update on the spread of the virus Monday from Huntington Hospital officials.
