The City of Pasadena confirmed reports of thefts of jewelry and other items from the University of Colorado football players’ Rose Bowl locker room during Saturday night’s game against UCLA. The Pasadena Police Department is currently investigating.

“The Pasadena Police Department was notified of a theft that took place in the University of Colorado locker room during the UCLA vs. Colorado football game at the Rose Bowl,” said Lt. Tim Bundy.

“The theft reportedly involved several pieces of jewelry and other miscellaneous personal and football items. At this point, the value of the loss is undetermined. Detectives will check the area for relevant security camera footage as part of the investigation and will review any existing video. Anyone with information on the theft should contact the Pasadena Police Department at 626-744-4241.”

City spokesperson Lisa Derderian said that the investigation is being conducted in collaboration with UCLA.

UCLA separately confirmed it is in communication with law enforcement, Rose Bowl Stadium officials and the University of Colorado on the matter.

The reports first surfaced shortly after the game when players were overheard discussing the thefts.

A video related to the thefts also emerged. One player, visibly upset, was heard saying the situation was “messed up.”

Derderian added that no further information is available at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.

According to City News Service, UCLA, said in a statement, also provided by Derderian:

“The UCLA athletic department confirmed that a report was filed to the Pasadena Police Department following the UCLA-Colorado football game regarding items that were reportedly missing from the Colorado locker room. UCLA is in communication with law enforcement, Rose Bowl Stadium officials and the University of Colorado on the matter,” the UCLA statement said.

“That’s awful for anybody,” UCLA coach Chip Kelly told The L.A. Times. “You would think that when you go anywhere that your valuables are safe.”

Colorado safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig retweeted a video of Buffaloes players discussing the situation after the game. One player can be heard saying, “I just got mine, bro. I had the jewelry box and everything, bro. They took it off my jewelry box.”

“IN LOCKER ROOM,” Silmon-Craig wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. ”YOU WOULD THINK YOUR STUFF SAFE MAN ITS CRAZY.”

Silmon-Craig ended his post on X with an angry-faced emoji.

Pasadena police and private security are responsible for safeguarding the Rose Bowl during events. There is no video surveillance inside the locker rooms.

For privacy and safety reasons, the state legislature has banned employers, except for the federal government, from recording changing rooms, locker rooms, or restrooms unless the recordings were required by court order.
