City Council Approves Schedule of Taxes for 2024 Lifting Rates 5%

Published on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 | 5:33 am

The City Council on Monday unanimously approved the Fiscal Year 2024 recommended schedule of taxes.

The proposal recommended an increase of 5.0989% to the flat amount rates to reflect the change in the most recent CPI data.

Staff is not recommending changes to any tax rate as these changes are subject to electoral approval.

“We will be coming back on June 5 with the General Fee schedule so the only items on this are the tax schedules,” Finance Director Matthew Hawkesworth said. “There are no new taxes proposed in this schedule nor are there any deviations from normal CPI increase schedule.”

Each year, the City Council reviews and adopts the Schedule of Taxes, Fees, and Charges as part of the annual budget adoption process.

Government Code Section 54954.6 states that before adopting any new or increased general tax or assessment, the City Council must conduct at least one public meeting before the public hearing.
