As temperatures continue to climb towards an expected week’s high of 96 degrees on Thursday, city and county officials said they will open a cooling center in Pasadena on Wednesday and Thursday.
The center is designed to provide relief for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, officials said.
It will be open from noon to 6 p.m. both days at Robinson Park Recreation Center at 1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave. There is no charge.
City spokesperson Lisa Derderian said proper social distancing and the wearing of masks will be observed. Water will be available for proper hydration, she said.
A county statement said that all visitors who come to any one of the Centers should bring with them and wear a face covering at all times.
The Emergency Cooling Center will be staffed by trained Disaster Service Workers from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services. To maintain social distancing, staff may limit the number of visitors at any one time.
Visitors who have COVID-19 symptoms (cough, fever, or difficulty breathing), or are actively following isolation or quarantine orders, may not enter.
Hand sanitizer, soap and water, or effective disinfectant will be available to visitors and staff at the Cooling Center, the statement said.
