City Departments Ramp Up Plans for Upcoming Tournament of Roses Events

The city is now gearing up for the upcoming New Year’s Day events including the Rose Parade, which in previous years brought hundreds of thousands of spectators to Pasadena.

This week, the Tournament of Roses Association as well as the police, fire, health and transportation departments, among others, will brief the City Council’s Public Safety Committee on the ongoing preparations and plans for the upcoming events, which also include the Rose Bowl Game and Floatfest.

The Public Safety Committee’s meeting is set for 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Presentations submitted to the committee by some of the departments provided a brief overview of the safety measures and COVID-19 protocols that will be enforced during the events.

In previous years and again this New Year’s, branches of first responder agencies from virtually every level of government from city and county to state and federal coordinate to ensure the safety of spectators and the success of all the events.

For this year’s events, the Tournament of Roses Association will require ticket holders for the 2022 Rose Parade, Rose Bowl Game and Floatfest to bring ID, proof of their vaccination or proof of their COVID-19 test.

Those who will not comply with this rule will not be granted entrance to the venue. Guests are also required to wear face masks during the events.

The annual Tournament of Roses Parade was cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
