The shock and sadness of Councilmember John J. Kennedy’s death Thursday continue to resonate throughout Pasadena this weekend. Kennedy was 61. The cause of his death was not immediately available.

Mayor Gordo and Kennedy’s fellow Councilmembers have canceled Monday’s Council meeting to honor Kennedy, a native Pasadenan who served on the Council since 2013 and won re-election to the District 3 seat in June by a wide margin.

During his tenure on City Council, he chaired the Public Safety Committee, served on the Finance Committee, and was one of three City representatives to the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

Kennedy’s family requested in a statement that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Kennedy’s memory be made to the LEOLA SUDDUTH AND THOMAS FOSTER KENNEDY SCHOLARSHIP FUND -Pasadena Community Foundation online here bit.ly/PCFKennedyFund. Checks payable to PCF with an indication of Kennedy Fund in the memo can be mailed to 301 E. Colorado Blvd., Suite 810. Pasadena, CA 91101. All donations are tax-deductible.

Cards of condolence may be sent to PO Box 40371, Pasadena CA 91114.
