City Reports 35 New COVID-19 Cases, One Fatality Over Holiday Weekend

The city reported 15 new cases of the Coronavirus on Sunday and one additional death caused by the virus.

To date, 1,401 Pasadena residents have been infected with the virus, and 96 people have died.

On July 4, 20 cases and no deaths were reported.

As of July 4, the city’s death rate had declined to 6.5 percent according to statistics released by city officials.

The state is experiencing a surge in cases. Over the past seven days, from June 26 to July 2 the state averaged 6,033 new cases per day, its highest point of the pandemic.

So far the death toll has not caught up to the increase in cases, but things are expected to change at some point.

“Deaths always lag considerably behind cases,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-disease specialist, told Congress at a hearing last week that in the weeks to come the death toll is likely to rise.

Gov. Gavin Newsom last week rolled back the reopening of businesses and once again closed dining rooms and some other indoor operations at local businesses.

Los Angeles County health officials had said they would not be putting out daily coronavirus reports this weekend because the county was updating its data processing systems.
